things i learned today that i already know...

~people don't come over when my house is clean

~people only come over if you're still in your pj's at noon

~the phone will ring at the same time said people knock on the door

~everybody and his brother will call when you have company

~guaranteed some child will think said company has invaded your home and will become an instant cling-on

~various children will not behave as normal... will outright refuse to do something they normally loves to do

~the phone will ring again

~and again

~a little cheesecake goes a long way - especially when served in a mug to disguise it from said children

~a child's eyes and facial muscles will do really cool things when cheesecake is spied.

~one child will claim at 3 pm... or was that 1? that he has not had lunch and *nobody* told *him* it was lunch time

~your hubby will turn off the power just long enough for you and your guests to have no idea what time it is... you may think it's hours earlier than it really is :)

~it's easier to cut things out if you have your tongue hanging out

~cling-on will wake up from nap and glare at guests for still being there

~guaranteed one child will be in the bathroom and miss a trip to the mailbox with grandma

~fathers and children still need to eat even though mothers are having fun inventing important things

~the house does not clean up itself

~children do not claen up said house either

~my sewing machine hates me

~elastic hates me

~you will need a seam ripper

~my seam ripper is my friend

~you will need that seam ripper again

~projects always take longer than expected

~changing the thread in your serger will take longer than the entire project - except for said 'unstitching'

~thread will be messed up in serger... project will have to be smaller than expected.

~good times

~great company

~must do again

~baby will wake up as soon as your head hits the pillow.

~this does not stop head from hitting pillow, though

~good night :)

dinner

Okay, so I have food on the brain. So. :)
Like roasted garlic? You're going to LOVE this. Why spend an hour waiting when you can have the exact same result in FIVE MINUTES? and your house will still smell just as delish.

You will need:
Olive Oil
Garlic
(simplicity!)

Heat the oil in a cast iron skillet (any old skillet will do, but I much prefer cast iron over anything else) and toss in the garlic cloves. DO NOT PEEL THEM!

Toast for about 5 minutes -frequently turning cloves to brown all sides - garlic will be browned and softened.

NOW YOU CAN PEEL THEM!
Peel, eat, enjoy! :)

My kids LOVE these. They would snack on them all day if I let them. :)

breakfast

you know you want some....

Happy Birthday Hulkie!

Hulkbaby turned two the other day. She really loved her cake.

She loved the other side of it too!

Don't worry, you'll get to formally meet Hulkie later. I just wanted to show you how much she loved her "oink" cake. Didn't my aunt do a wonderful job?!

And the kids took 100 pictures of it. :)

Her new birthday pony tail hat. :) If you click on the picture, you can see it listed in my shop... and more pictures. :)

Twitchy

I'm going to skip around a little bit here. Next in the line up of intros is Twitchy. Why the name Twitchy? It fits. It really just fits.

"They" say a picture's worth a thousand words. I'll let you be the judge of that...

All I wanted was for her to smile at the camera. Is that too much to ask? I thought you could get a good idea of her personalty by just looking at her teeth. They're all over the place. Twitchy. She knocked her two front teeth out when she was three. She's been toofless over half her life already. It's about time some of them started coming in and not just falling out.

Yeah. Here's a good picture.
Twitchy used to yell, "TOE JAMMMMS" at Daddy as he left for work. Yes. Toe. Jams. I don't know either. Just one of those Twitchy things.

It's much more fun to act like you don't know what's going on. For example, the other day I spent 45 minutes trying to eplain how to read three digit numbers to her. We used her math blocks.
Me: Where's the hundred's place?
T: Ummmm.... over there? (points to a totally different page)
Me: No. What number are we looking at.
T: This one. (points to the number 642)
Me: Yes. Now what number is in the hundred's place?
T: Ummm... 2! No. 5! No... ummm...? 4? 6!
Me: ahhhhhhhh!
1/2 hour later...
Me: So. What number is that?
T: (very matter of fact and i knew it all along) six hundred fourty two.
You should have seen how she put the blocks on the page.... no order at. all. none. ZERO. One hundred here.... One over there.... Two over here... and maybe a couple over there. And ones and tens? The same way. Twitchy, I tell ya!

And the clothes thing. Wow! She's going to be a fun teenager. If I'm not careful, Twitchy could easily change her clothes 50 times a day. "Why do we have to wear clothes that match?" She prefers to wear her clothes more on the 'fun' side. Kinda reminds me of a certain "cute" little sister of mine. If given the chance, I bet she'd wear two or more pairs of socks stacked on top of each other. I just don't get it. Does this child really have MY genes???

Twitchy. Gotta love the hair do. Had to chop it off chin length to keep her from chewing on it. Not sure that really worked. Don't be surprised if you see a new post soon with new girlie hair cuts. Wish I could get one too.

Gotta love those rose colored glasses. Life is a bowl full of cherries. It's all fun and games. With a joyful smile and a twinkle in her eye, she'll brighten even your darkest days.

Meet Octavius

This...

is Octavius... He's the little guy. He's number eight. Known to the general public as "Baby O"... no, Octavius is not his real name. But, then, none of my kids really have real names. They, like me and my siblings, are called by whatever name comes to mind first. Luckily, I have not resorted to calling them the dog's name as my mother did... yet. But that's probably because I have a hard time remembering the dog's name. Most of the time I want to call HER Gert~ the name of our dog when I was growing up. Yes. I am a LOT like my mother... can't help it. But this post is not about me... it's about Baby O.

Contrary to popular belief, O does not wear a hat 24/7. As a matter of fact, there were several times when I could NOT find a hat to put on his head! He does love to model, though. As soon as there's a hat on his head and a camera pointing at his face, he gives the biggest smiles you ever did see. I like to say he has a bit of his Great Grandpa John in him... He's just a bit of a show off. ;)

Being number eight, O thinks he's part of the crowd. Ever since day one, he has much preferred hanging, no~dangling, from my arm than facing in and resting his cuddly little head on my shoulder. Nah! There's way too much going on to bury your little head in your mother's shoulders.... You just might miss something. I'm certain he'll grow up to be a sky diver - or have some job hanging off of buildings or towers or something. I do not approve. I want my children to stay on the ground. When he's not hanging from my right arm trying to grab everything we walk by, O can be found sitting on my back pulling my hair out. It's not like I haven't lost enough of my hair already. Those backpack things should come with hoods - for the mother, not just for the child. The least he could do is just pick out the gray ones.

Another thing O loves to do is play guitar with Daddy. As you can see in the picture, he no longer falls asleep to Daddy's guitar playing. That was a nice stage. Daddy plays guitar, baby goes to sleep, Mommy Tweets. :) Now he likes to play WITH Daddy. Not as nice of a situation. Daddy doesn't get much playing in with baby muting the strings. Baby doesn't sleep. Mommy still Tweets. ;)

Tall, slender, blonde hair, sparkling blue eyes, bright smile, greatly loved and adored by his family~bringing joy to his Mamma's heart daily!

And, of course, if you need to see more pictures of him, clicky , he's in my shop trying to sell some hats! :)
